What is a party without mints?
I believe my emotional need for colorful party mints goes back to my days in Job’s Daughters. There was not one reception or installation that did not have a plate of swirled fondant mints and every reception and installation had its own unique color scheme, usually two colors. When I was installed as Honored Queen, my colors were grass green and buttercup yellow. I kept one color of each mint for years as a souvenir wrapped in a little bundle of plastic wrap among my other teenaged treasurers.
When planning the Jeanpalooza Birthday Party Extravaganza for this week, (read my past posts if you’re just clicking in), I had to have mints! Do they even make fondant mints anymore? Anyway, I wanted to add some vibrant punch of color to the dessert table and thought of decorating with foil wrapped peppermint patties.
I cheated. I bought dark chocolate peppermint patties at See’s while I was at the mall on another errand but I’ve made them in the past using chocolate patty molds, powdered fondant sugar, peppermint oil and a little water. It’s very easy if you have the time which I’m short on but it’s even easier and faster to dress up purchased mints. Shhhh. Don’t tell.
You can find colored foil squares at most cake decorating supplies stores in many colors. I was happy to find pink and orange.
A minty fresh way to add a big splash of color to your party with very little effort. 🙂
