I was at South Coast Plaza yesterday. It is an outing. This is what I learned: The sales staff at Tiffany’s are courteous, friendly and professional. She gave me a blue bag to take home although I shipped my gifts. The sales staff at Ralph Lauren’s are snobby, cold and aloof. I wanted to tell the sales girl, “Honey, you may be 5’11”, thin as a whippet and twenty-something, but you’re the one working on a beautiful Saturday for minimum… [Read More]
Tailgate Time!
I LOVE all things collegiate not only because I am a USC alum and proud of it but all things collegiate were indoctrinated in me from birth. Orange County is Trojan Country although those from that other school across town and which must not be named would have a different opinion. As I tell anyone my favorite teams are USC and anyone that is playing UCLA However, after spending this morning googling and checking out websites for collegiate needlepoint belts… [Read More]
Once A Mom Waiting For The Phone To Ring…
Welcome to college. Son1 has the flu. 🙁 They are requesting many kids return home to stop the spread. The first week of class. Ugh!I had just finished talking with him on the phone and was listening to how horrible he sounded and how miserable he is feeling today. So hard to hear. Anyway, being at work I turned my attention to retrieving the the phone messages from our service. One read: Trying to get a hold of your wife. Your… [Read More]
My Joe Wilson Moment
The incident with Joe Wilson brought to mind my own moment of disclosure from years of calculated deceit. It involved a loaf of bread. When my boys were very young and I hadn’t gotten to the store to buy another loaf which was running low for the PB & J sandwiches and knowing no one liked to eat the heals of the bread I concocted a story. I told them it was the baker’s piece and it was so special… [Read More]
Tote Bags, Pink Martinis and Procrastination.
I am preoccupied with escapism today ~anything to keep my thoughts off of son2 leaving home next weekend and the last of the list to pull together that I have been putting off. Procrastination. I do know one thing~I am finishing my day with one of these: Remember, if it’s pink and has a parasol in itit has got to be good! Pomegranate Martini 7 parts Citron Grey Goose Vodka3 parts Lemoncelloheavy splash of Pomegranate Juice Shake, shake, shake with… [Read More]
Uh-oh. Fire.
I woke up this morning to the smell of fire. This is an autumnal ritual in SoCal. It is not the quaint thought of burning leaves or a bonfire which are punishable acts by death in the southland and let’s face it, no one picks up their own leaves around these parts or even owns a rake. The smell of smoke in the fall always means something bad. Always. No doubt you have seen on the news this past week… [Read More]
The First Day of Autumn
Today begins the official first day of Autumn in SoCal. At least for me anyway. September marks the beginning of the hottest month of the year for us. For the past week we’ve had to run the AC at night.Scorcher. Eventhough I have been out of school for many years, butterflies return to my tummy like the swallows return to Mission San Juan Capistrano a few miles south from us. As a mom I transferred all my educational anxieties of… [Read More]
Welcome To My Virtual Summer Vacation…
“… and I just know we’ll have a good time”. No, my first name ain’t baby. It’s Pink ~ Mrs. Martini if you’re nasty. Jeez, Lady Kate, if you knew your JJ songs you would recognize the above reference to her early 80’s hit ‘Nasty’ where she says – ‘No, my first name ain’t baby. It’s Janet. Ms. Jackson if you’re nasty.’ I know you remember the 80’s although I was a mere child! Admit it! 🙂 Talk to you… [Read More]
When The Universe Steps In …
Sometimes things just seem to go so right ~One night I was walking in the parking lot of a shopping center where I apparently dropped my keys without knowing it. I was steps away from going inside the store when I heard a car alarm and for some reason I turned around towards the sound. I saw the lights on my car flashing. That’s odd. I looked in my bag for the keys and then I realized I did not… [Read More]
Mad Men?
Is it just me or is anyone else left lukewarm with Mad Men this season?I forgave the season premier as I allowed for the catch up of the summer. For instance, we already knew Don Draper’s (D.D.) illustrious background. It did nothing for the story line, in my opinion, to know how he was named ‘Dick’. The first episode ran the gamut from boring to almost pornographic but it still did not hold my attention. The story lines seem disjointed… [Read More]
